Tikal

One of the largest and most amazing Mayan ruins in the world is located in Guatemala.

It is a 4 hour bus ride from our dorm to Tikal, which means 8+ hours of driving to go for a one day trip. Because some teams have asked for this experience, we have put together a package that we offer in the middle of the mission trip for those who would like to visit the Tikal Mayan ruins. But due to the amount of time it takes, we have broken this adventure into a 2 day trip.

One the first day we take our shuttle bus to the island of Flores. This is a beautiful island on Lake Peten, which is somewhat like Antigua, with beautiful hotels and shops for souvenirs.

We stay at a wonderful hotel with AC, clean rooms and a pool. The island is very safe so you can go shopping or exploring on your own and then decide where you want to go for dinner. This dinner is the only food you will pay on your own. We decided to handle it this was as some people want pizza and others want steak or seafood.

The next day we are only 45 minutes from Tikal. After breakfast we will head for Tikal and stop just before the park. There the team can go on a Zip Line through the jungle canopy where you may see monkeys and the real untouched jungle of Guatemala.

The Zip Line takes about an hour and is one of the highlights of the trip for those who love adventure.

We then ride into the park of the granddaddy of all Mayan ruins: Tikal

The hike through Tikal is about 2 to 3 hours. It is spectacular and truly one of the wonders of the world.

Due to the cost of the park fee, increases in fuel prices, hotel costs and the use of the bus, we have to charge an extra fee for this trip which is above the cost of our normal daily expenses. We made an exact accounting of all expenses for the trip from fuel to hotel to fees for park and zip line and everything except the dinner on the island (where you will be on your own). The trip cost comes to $142.00 per person and this covers everything except your dinner at Flores and any souvenirs.

If you are interested in this extra trip, please contact me and we can work out the details. I will reserve the hotel and set everything up for your team.

Remember this is optional and only for teams coming for at least 10 days. If you are only coming for less than 10 days, we do not have enough time to do clinics and take two days off to go to Tikal.
